Canada's rarest and most threatened species, Howell manroot, Marah oregana, down to one viable population in the country - along a ridge above Fulford Community Hall on Salt Spring Island. Determined scientifically to be endangered in 2009 there was a recommendation for federal protection that was ignored by the first-majority, Harper cabinet.
